#TBT- Throwback Thursday - Destiny's Child

Before Beyonce hit headlines with Superbowl performances and married hip-hop mogul Jay Z, the star's humble beginnings came from her super girl group, Destiny's Child. Between 1997 and 2005, the group became the world's top-selling female vocal group achieving combined sales of more than 60 million records. We've been listening (and singing along) to the group's second album, Writings on the Wall all week at MeeBox HQ. Here are a few fun facts, tracks and classic images from the group hailing from Houston, Texas...
1.¬†Before Destiny's Child were a trio, the group included Letoya Lucket and LaTavia Robertson (and later Farrah Franklin! Remember her?) All previous Destiny's Child alumna. In the mid 90's the girls began as a group of four with Letoya and LaTavia joining Beyonce and Kelly, however in 1999, they were¬†swiftly to be replaced with Michelle¬†and Farrah. But six months into the new¬†Destiny's Child lifestyle Farrah was axed. Reportedly, she brutally learned of her dismissal via an MTV News bulletin... eeeek! It's a tough life. The girls continued with 3 members and went on to sell millions of records.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQLySgRW6y8 2. Michelle, Kelly and Beyonce have enjoyed a stint in the Hollywood and Broadway spotlight during their pop careers however, never acted together. Michelle starred in the¬†Tony-nominated musical Fela!¬†in the US, Kelly made her acting debut in 2003 in the horror flick,¬†Freddy vs Jason¬†and Queen Bey starred alongside Mike Myers in Austin Powers as Foxxy Cleopatra. Remember Beyonce's song for the soundtrack? Absolutely loved her gold mani in this video...   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lPQZni7I18 3. Speaking of Hollywood, how could we not include the classic song, Independent Women part 1, which was recorded especially for the Charlie Angel's movie, released in 2000. Who run the world? Girls!   beyonce-tina-knowles 4. Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, famously dressed and styled Destiny's Child in the early days of their careers when money was limited. She then went on to team up with Beyonce to launch their own clothing line, House of¬†Der√©on, which was first introduced on the Oprah Winfrey Show.   destinys-child-stellar-awards-30mar15-04 5. In June 2005, the group announced ¬†their spit at a show in Barcelona, Spain and stated,¬†"after a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching,¬†we realised that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny‚Äôs¬†Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming¬†gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other." The group last performed together was at¬†at the Stellar Gospel Awards in Las Vegas in 2015. Let's hope they make another surprise performance this year...we've missed the crazy co-ordinated outfits, world tours, Christmas albums and 90's tunes.
