I'm always on the lookout for nail art to try and lord knows I've got inspo Pinterest boards and IG collections coming out of my ears. But when I saw this beautiful geometric nail art by Aysh at Truly Madly Beauty I knew I had to stop pinning and start doing.
Just LOOK at this beauty... at a glance I thought "aw HELL no - sit down LJ, this is way out of your league". But once you see how Aysh did it, step-by-step, she made it look so easy!
It was not easy.
Truly Madly Beauty
I did a bit of googling for where this beautiful pattern came from, and here's what I found:
“The Asanoha pattern is one of the most popular traditional patterns often seen on Japanese kimono. Asanoha means: Asa = hemp: no = of: ha = leaf. The regular geometric pattern, though abstract, represents overlapping hemp leaves. As a geometric motif asanoha has ‘no season’ so it can be worn throughout the year.”
So without further ado, I got cracking. To begin, I grabbed the following bits n bobs:
- iZ Beauty London - Forget Me Not
- Color Club - Disco Dress
- Leighton Denny Expert Nails corrector fluid (boy I needed this)
- An old (long) nail art brush that I'd cleaned with acetone.
First up... a fresh coat of Forget Me Not by iZ Beauty - Featured in our Pool Party theme!
If you go and take a look at Aysh's tutorial, you'll see that she started off by drawing individual triangles to begin the look.... Me being impatient (hello Furious Filer!) and quite frankly rubbish at such intricate details, went all out and tried a slightly different method...
(This is probably the point at which I should admit that some of the pics I took of my nail art midway through were completely blurry. Sorry about that.)
So aside from me completely fudging up my index finger, you'll notice that I got so excited once I started drawing the smaller lines inside the triangles, that I forgot to take enough pictures. (Sorry about that as well)
The best way I can describe how to draw those inner lines... is to draw a little Mercedes logo in there. I advise to start from the corner of the triangle and bring your brush into the middle where all 3 will meet:
Thanks again to Aysh for the inspo! This nail art almost broke me, but I'm already looking forward to my next adventure. Maybe we should start a "Challenge LJ" thing? My nervous breakdown for your enjoyment!
On an unrelated note, I was so engrossed in this endeavor, it was 3pm by the time I'd finished and I hadn't even had breakfast. (Bee regularly threatens to fire me when I don't eat brekkie - so don't tell her, ok?)
Oh, and of course as soon as I started writing this blog, my laptop threw itself out the window and refused to turn on. I took me about 12 hours to fix it. (Ahem... for my boyf to fix it.) So "Mani Monday" is being posted on Tuesday night. So sue me!
But anyway... whaddya think girls and boys!?
